One of Our Own – Tim Rankin, 42, was born and raised in our community in the 24th Ohio House District that encompasses Upper Arlington, Grandview, Marble Cliff, and parts of Columbus and Hilliard.  Now Tim is raising his four children, Nicholas, Maxwell, Alex, and Stella, with his wife Maria in our very own community. Because of his roots in this community and the roots of his children that are still growing and strengthening, Tim has been committed to community involvement – always seeking a way to leave each day better than the last.

It is Tim’s experience as a public servant and community volunteer that will best represent our community to the Ohio House of Representatives.  Elected as one of the youngest-ever members to Upper Arlington City Council in 1999 and again as top vote getter in 2003, Tim is proud of the accomplishments the city has had during his time on council.  Tim was integral in creating a financially stable city, with smart commercial redevelopments in the city, including Henderson Road, Riverside Drive, Lane Avenue, and the Tremont Center.  Tim was also instrumental to the continued success of the parks and recreation programs during his tenure on council.  His work with the Reed Road Water Park, formerly the Hastings Pool, has been a huge success since opening its doors to the public in 2005.  During his term, Tim served as the Council’s representatives on various board and councils, including:

     •   Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission
     •   Central Ohio Municipal Council
     •   Rules Review Committee
     •   Leadership Program Board of Directors

Beyond his life as a public servant, Tim has dedicated his time to community philanthropy and has begun to instill that dedication in his children.  Appointed as the youngest-ever Trustees for the U.A. Commission of Aging, Tim and his family continue to volunteer their free time to the Commission, including raking leaves for elderly neighbors and maintaining their yards and housing upkeep.  Tim’s other community volunteerism includes:

     •   Coach of area youths sports program
     •   Columbus Bar Association’s Mentor Program
     •   Presiding Judge/Panelist for Ohio Center for Law-Related Education,
     •   Ohio High School Mock Trial Competition
     •   Ohio and Columbus Bar Associations
     •   (Former) State of Ohio Victims Assistance Advisory Board
     •   Vice Chairman of the U.A. Charter Review Commission

In his professional life, Tim is a Shareholder in the emerging downtown Columbus law firm Onda, LaBuhn, Rankin & Boggs Co., LPA.  Formed in May 2002, Onda, LaBuhn, Rankin & Boggs is a diverse general practice law firm that represents clients ranging from large corporate clients to individual clients.  Tim heads the firm’s Litigation practice which encompasses cases throughout Courts in Ohio, Federal Courts, and state and local administrative agencies.

Tim started his legal career as the Chief Prosecutor and Assistant City Attorney for the City of Whitehall, where he handled all areas and levels of civil and criminal representation for the City.  While serving in that capacity, Tim was the first central Ohio attorney to successfully argue and defend the constitutionality of Ohio’s drunk driving laws after the controversial 1993 legislative amendments.  Tim worked hand-in-hand with the Whitehall Police Department to vigilantly prosecute criminals to enhance the safety and vitality of the City.

Tim continues to represent other municipalities in various matters, including numerous high profile special prosecutor cases for the City of Columbus, City of Reynoldsburg and the City of Lancaster.
